Most seasoned fishermen and anglers would say that one of the best species to fly fish is the salmon.

Why so? If salmon is in a great mood to eat, they will gobble up everything that comes their way. The best times for salmon fly fishing are days that are dark and cloudy.

However, salmon normally is not a good catch during summer, especially during days when the sun is out and shining bright. Summer months are when this type of fish will huddle themselves under any shadow found in the waters.

What waters are best to fly fish for salmon? Go to any wide lake water; here is where you can fish for salmon as tend to be aggressive and offensive on big areas.

As soon as they swim toward the river however, they become timid and will most likely avoid striking.

Fly fishing for salmon requires reliable fishing equipment - and a very sharp hook. Salmon’s jaws are thick and sturdy, and because of this, sharp hooks are necessary to successfully penetrate them.

So when the opportunity arises and you find yourself in a big lake on a cloudy day, set up your fishing rod and lines fast and enjoy some hours of great salmon angling.
