You grew up fly fishing and enjoying your childhood experience mainly because of the fun and joy of the game. Now that you have children, you thought it is also right that you get them to have the same fun and excitement that you had in your early years.

Indeed, fly fishing is a fun family recreational activity that a lot of kids love. However, even during their tender age, you must try to help them imbibe the right characters and traits for them to grow up becoming able and competent fishers.
What does a fisherman need to be? One must be patient enough to yield success, and of course he must possess the ability for full concentration. Young as they are, children do not still possess such characteristic. It is imperative that you help them develop these traits if you want your kids not only to excel at this game later on, but find true enjoyment in doing them at the same time.
You yourself know the importance of safety when fishing, and all the more it is a must that safety is observed when children are fishing. Be reminded that above all, safety comes first. It is definitely needed the most in more dangerous waters such as the open seas. In the first place, you should not be bringing them to such vast expanse of the waters. Ponds and streams are the best places to go fishing with your children. The more overwhelming waters such as the wide oceans and swift waters of the rivers are reserved for them once they mature.

It is a must the fly fishing equipment that you provide your kids are excellent products. And likewise, make sure only the safe and quality-tested fishing gears and equipments are used all the time. The proper fishing attire such as waders and boots should be worn. And life vests are certainly a must to assure safety, especially if the kids are out away from the shore. Life vests should be worn at all times during the fishing session.
When bringing along your kids to fish, you try to lead by example. I am sure that during your first fishing trip together, you were so excited to show them how to set the fishing hooks, or set and cast the fly lines. Be a serious teacher and at the same time have some light moments with them. This will help your kids absorb all the things that you are trying to teach them.

Go for Some Easy Sunfish Fly Fishing
May 17, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Sunfish is one species you should try to catch by fly fishing. Indeed, the fish is quite easy to catch that you need not be an expert fly fisherman. Even the basic fly fishing techniques may be used and you are surely to end an angling afternoon with a great fish catch.
Not Picky on Baits
I suggest sunfish for the beginners than the more popular trout because fishing for the latter is somewhat difficult. The trout species has a very picky attitude when it comes to baits, so you will have to spend some time to learn the different types of insects on the waters that are recommended for successful trout fly fishing.
Luckily, sunfish have simpler taste and not very particular when it comes to food. They will literally eat anything thrown onto the waters. So you practically do not have to exert much effort in perfecting your bait presentation when trying to catch sunfish.
Use Floating Fly for Better Catch

The easiest way to catch sunfish is by using a floating fly (also known as the dry fly). Let if float around the waters and shortly you will see the sunfish sucking it in. This is because of the fish’s habit of catching insects that float on the water surface. They just love doing this.

Sunfish also enjoy going and swimming in schools and the good new is that they are not easily spooked even when disturbed – the somehow say together no matter what. Therefore, it is great strategy to go after sunfish schools – you may catch one after another and they seem not to notice and still stay together.
Like I said, simple fly fishing techniques are needed to catch a sunfish. So this means those fancy expensive fly fishing equipments are not required. Simple ones will do. Although of course, if you want to be a serious fly fisher, you would want to invest on the expensive, high quality fishing equipments that will last for years and years.

Enjoy Some Fly Fishing at the Port
May 9, 2008 | Leave a Comment

You do not have to go far to the seas, miles and miles away from the port or the shores, to enjoy some fly fishing. You can do the catching of fish right there at the port, whether alone or with your favorite fishing buddy. I took this picture of two fishers having some great time fishing at the famous, ancient (Biblical) Jaffa Port (also known as Yafo Port) in the city of Tel Aviv. Despite being crowded with fishing and charter boats, the Jaffa Port is one of the most popular fishing sites in Israel. Boats filled with great fish catches regularly come in from the Mediterranean sea. But of course, armed with even the simples fly fishing equipments, you may opt to do the fishing and enjoy a prolific afternoon.

Few Good Qualities to Have When Fly Fishing
May 3, 2008 | Leave a Comment
What are the qualities a great fly fisherman must have? Not much, albeit you do have to throw in some patience and tenacity as well as lots of humor (which you can use when you are fly fishing with your buddies) to really become one. Here is a few of them.

Be a wise buyer of fly fishing equipment. You must know how to find the best buys in fly fishing gear. Whatever fly fishing equipment – rod, line, bait, hook – that you acquired, naturally you want them to last for a lifetime. So it’s just common sense that you decide on the start to purchase the best quality angling equipment there is. Of course, if you are affected by monetary concerned then consider also finding the best products that can be bought at reasonable prices.

Be patient with those bites. Sooner or later, a bite on your bait will come. Just pray that it is from a trophy rainbow trout that you have always been dreaming to catch. Most of time, when fly fishing, patience is a must. I am sure every veteran fisherman will agree that patience is on top of the list of qualities that ensure success in fly fishing. Even if you have this sinking feeling on the start of a fishing session that it’s going to be a bad fish day, wait. Just wait and wait – even for some hours. A single fish caught after a long afternoon more often than not makes one feel rewarded. Indeed, patience is a virtue, especially in the case of a fly fisherman.
Be funny (at times) when fly fishing. This is not to say that the game of fishing is not a serious pursuit. It certainly is. But it does not require you to have a straight face all the time. Yes, you want to focus on your fishing and might even be visualizing hard on the trophy fish that you will eventually catch. But some dash of humor can be helpful on certain instances, especially if you are with your fishing buddies.

For example, it’s one of those fishing sessions with your buddies. And it’s turning out to be a not-so-productive day. You might have the tendency of distancing yourself with the rest while concentrating on your own stuff. Try to avoid this. The straight face look gives out an expression of disinterest and certainly will rub in on the rest. You yourself should try and make the effort of livening up the fishing session by starting light and funny conversations. This helps, especially if the mood within your group is becoming tense for being non-prolific.
With some humorous conversations injected within, everyone lightens up and the attention is momentarily taken away from the fishing. Surely enough, as the catches finally come in, you and your group become more exhilarated and excited in appreciation. It turns out to be one of the best fishing adventures you had with your friends.
