Enjoy Some Fly Fishing at the Port
May 9, 2008 | Leave a Comment

You do not have to go far to the seas, miles and miles away from the port or the shores, to enjoy some fly fishing. You can do the catching of fish right there at the port, whether alone or with your favorite fishing buddy. I took this picture of two fishers having some great time fishing at the famous, ancient (Biblical) Jaffa Port (also known as Yafo Port) in the city of Tel Aviv. Despite being crowded with fishing and charter boats, the Jaffa Port is one of the most popular fishing sites in Israel. Boats filled with great fish catches regularly come in from the Mediterranean sea. But of course, armed with even the simples fly fishing equipments, you may opt to do the fishing and enjoy a prolific afternoon.

Few Good Qualities to Have When Fly Fishing
May 3, 2008 | Leave a Comment
What are the qualities a great fly fisherman must have? Not much, albeit you do have to throw in some patience and tenacity as well as lots of humor (which you can use when you are fly fishing with your buddies) to really become one. Here is a few of them.

Be a wise buyer of fly fishing equipment. You must know how to find the best buys in fly fishing gear. Whatever fly fishing equipment – rod, line, bait, hook – that you acquired, naturally you want them to last for a lifetime. So it’s just common sense that you decide on the start to purchase the best quality angling equipment there is. Of course, if you are affected by monetary concerned then consider also finding the best products that can be bought at reasonable prices.

Be patient with those bites. Sooner or later, a bite on your bait will come. Just pray that it is from a trophy rainbow trout that you have always been dreaming to catch. Most of time, when fly fishing, patience is a must. I am sure every veteran fisherman will agree that patience is on top of the list of qualities that ensure success in fly fishing. Even if you have this sinking feeling on the start of a fishing session that it’s going to be a bad fish day, wait. Just wait and wait – even for some hours. A single fish caught after a long afternoon more often than not makes one feel rewarded. Indeed, patience is a virtue, especially in the case of a fly fisherman.
Be funny (at times) when fly fishing. This is not to say that the game of fishing is not a serious pursuit. It certainly is. But it does not require you to have a straight face all the time. Yes, you want to focus on your fishing and might even be visualizing hard on the trophy fish that you will eventually catch. But some dash of humor can be helpful on certain instances, especially if you are with your fishing buddies.

For example, it’s one of those fishing sessions with your buddies. And it’s turning out to be a not-so-productive day. You might have the tendency of distancing yourself with the rest while concentrating on your own stuff. Try to avoid this. The straight face look gives out an expression of disinterest and certainly will rub in on the rest. You yourself should try and make the effort of livening up the fishing session by starting light and funny conversations. This helps, especially if the mood within your group is becoming tense for being non-prolific.
With some humorous conversations injected within, everyone lightens up and the attention is momentarily taken away from the fishing. Surely enough, as the catches finally come in, you and your group become more exhilarated and excited in appreciation. It turns out to be one of the best fishing adventures you had with your friends.

Here is a short video (under two minutes of running time) on two fly fishers enjoying some afternoon of Alaska fly fishing. The fisher guy was able to catch a leopard rainbow trout. As can be seen on the clip, such a beauty the rainbow trout really was.
Both anglers obviously were excited about their trophy trout catch, examining the fish carefully, marveling at its size, color and over-all beauty. A few minutes after, they deem it was time to go – and so the leopard rainbow, briefly hooked, was able to regain its freedom and swim away to the wide waters of the river.
Such is the beauty of catch-and-release fly fishing. You can definitely enjoy some Alaska fly fishing in many of its pristine, fertile rivers; you just have to visit one for a great and exciting and even memorable angling adventure.

Fly Fishing is for All
January 30, 2008 | Leave a Comment
If you have an image of a fly fisher or angler as some middle aged man with coat and wading pants, and wearing a wide brimmed hat on top, well you may be right, but he is just one of the many types of people really lured (no pun intended) to enjoy the game.

Young men and women, old folks, whole families, groups of friends (fishing buddies I supposed so) are all into this sport, currently one of the most popular in the United States today, as well as in many other countries as well. The is that fly fishing and fishing in general is now a multi billion industry in the US and is a major leisure activity among Americans.
A reason behind is the relaxation, yet immense excitement that you get from doing this water game, from start to finish. Fly fishing in particular is widely enjoyed, much more than using worms as bait. Movies often have great scenes of the lead actors who play the role of fly fishermen, and you can well sense yourself the enjoyment that the fly fishing scene project.
What makes fly fishing more attractive to women is the fact that they can employ the catch and release method; no blood and life of the fish is lost. Fly fishing sessions are likewise a time for effective bonding among families and even friends. Fly fishing is for all. Better get yourself your own fly fishing rod and baits and hit the lake for some nice trophy rainbow or brown trout.

Having Some Great Lone Fly Fishing
December 22, 2007 | Leave a Comment

If you are a natural loner, then you might also prefer to fly fish all by yourself if you are into this sport. Surely every angler or fisherman would enjoy fly fishing alone, away from the usual noisy sessions with his angling buddies.
Why would one like to fish alone? I can only think of several reasons why.
You might want to fish alone of you want it to be a purely leisure time for yourself. Fishing alone, without anyone else on your side doing the same time, strips away the air of competition. There is no pressure on you (and on your fishing buddy) to try catching the best trophy fish.
If you are alone, everything becomes flexible. You decide what time to go. The number of fish that you want to catch. Even the waters where you want to spend the day fly fishing. You get to think and decide on all this without considering your fishing buddies if you are otherwise fishing with them. Albeit sometimes, the tendency of angling alone is that you can’t seem to stop. You just want to go on with your fishing.
Beachfronts are ideal for lone fly fishing. So if you are around or living on such areas, then you care less about calling up your friends and just immediately head towards the beach with your fishing gear and hit the waters. I thought beaches attract lone fishers. Just go to one and see anglers fishing, many of them with nary a company.
Fishing alone definitely gives you the opportunity to think about personal matters, problems and issues and even make good resolutions on them. You enjoy fishing and at the same time are able to make the most of it, enjoying some great thinking, peace and a lot of concentration on your angling.
